- WHISSELL, Alexandra Caitlin - October 27, 1989 - March 3, 2018 It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Alexandra Caitlin Whissell on March 3, 2018. Alex is survived by her father and mother Mark and Nancy (Brown) Whissell and brother Ryan Whissell. Alex will be sadly missed by her very special friend Doug Welch (Bear) and his childen Jenna and Andrew. Grandparents Bill and Maureen (Lowney) Brown, Albert and Beulah Whissell (both predeceased), and great uncle Patrick Lowney. She will also be missed by Nancy's siblings Mike (Robin Goard) Brown, Cathy (David) Bellingham, Jim (Paula) Brown, Patrick (Annette) Brown and Mark's sisters Lesley (Yvon) Rousseau and Jennifer (Tony) Kusnierczyk, and cousins Ashley and Breanne Bellingham, Joshua Zanella Bown, Meridith and Jill Kusnierczyk and Kayleigh and Teagan Brown. Family gatherings were very important to Alex and she loved to spend time with everyone. Alex will be missed by her many close friends whose lives she touched and especially by the Kevin Jackson and Doug Wilkin families whom she has a very special relationship along with the others too many to mention. As all who knew her will attest, Alex had a special zest for life and she embraced the time she would spend with family and her multitude of friends, especially her time spent at Long Lake and Lake Panache. Her beautiful smile and larger than life presence could light up any room. Alex worked as a registered nurse in the ICU at Health Sciences North and taught clinical placement to Cambrian College nursing students. Her loving, caring, considerate and compassionate ways made her an excellent nurse and she loved her job and the people she worked with. She is a graduate of Laurentian University/Cambrian College (BSc.) as well as Lively High School. Alex worked as a bartender/waitress at Eddie's while going to school. She would sit down and visit with customers and chat up the regulars at the bar and even after she moved on with her life, still continued to keep in touch with many staff and patrons, no surprise... many became close friends. Alex was an exceptional golfer from an early age. She also loved boating with family on Manitoulin Island in the summers and snowboarding at Searchmont in the winter. She enjoyed many water sports on the lakes in the summer and snowmobiling on the frozen tundra in winter but Alex's biggest passion was being a fan of football. Trips around town Sunday mornings to get her picks in at a number of football pool hotspots, cheering the games on the big screen and lamenting over team losses, traveling to several US cities to attend NFL games and the infamous tailgate parties. The Kansas City Chiefs have lost one of their greatest cheerleaders.
